AllAmerican Girl Meg Cabot Books

I am a big fan of Meg Cabot. It started as a child with the Princess books and just went right into adulthood. I thought this book was good when I first read it and still enjoy reading it as an adult. This book reminds me of the movie Chasing Liberty.

AllAmerican Girl Meg Cabot Books Reviews

Meg Cabot can always get you laughing with a new story but this is a crazy book a must read.
If you like the way Meg writes her books lie princess diaries series well you'll surely love this one its a bit detailed but still a great storyline and i can't wait to get to the its sequal.
this book isn't written as a diary like the princess diary but the main character descibes alot of details and is funny even for non teens.
Meg Cabot creates great fun fiction. This book was funny, fun, but gave insights for pre-teen, teens, & adults into important world-wide issues as well as feelings. Not enough books can go into feelings while keeping it light. All-American Girl is a fantastic story.
This book was so good! It was set in my hometown which really connected with me. Meg Cabot was really one of my favorite authors growing up and this book was one of my favorites.
If you liked All-American Girl, then you'll like this book. It's a great sequel and Cabot deals with issues that teenage girls face today.

It's true that the main character, Sam, spends a good time thinking about her relationship with David. This of course, includes whether or not she's ready to have sex. This is something that all teen girls, and for that matter- all teen boys, think about. I think it admirable that Meg Cabot chose to include such a topic. If the author had not touched upon this, it would be an unrealistic look at a teenager's life.

This book has been recommended for grades 9 and up. I'd agree with that. By that age, most young adults are mature enough to read about the topic of sex. And while many things influence the decision of whether or not to have sex (friends, movies, alcohol), there is no reason to skip this book for fear of it deciding for them.

Book 1 All-American Girl
Book 2 Ready or Not
My sister has been reading the Princess Diaries series by Meg Cabot, and told me they were good. After finding this in a book store, I decided to try it out.

I can highly relate to the feelings in this book, and it only took me a couple days to read the whole book. The story is about a middle child, Samantha Maddison, who is often ignored next to her genius little sister, Rebecca, and popular older sister, Lucy. After doodling in her Deutch notebook, she is sent to Susan Boones for art lessons, which changes her life. Another big event is that she saves the president from being killed. (No I am not spoiling. This is all on the cover.) )

I highly reccomend the book! Enjoy!
Spoilers ahead

Full disclaimer - I listened to this book on audio. This is important because I thought that narrator had the most annoying voice in the world so every time Sam "spoke" I wanted to kill her. Whine whine whine. Want some cheese with that whine, Same?

Anyway, this is another book that I really wanted to love but I hated it. I know that a lot of people will put this all down to the sex factor. I won't lie that that is part of why I hate it. But it isn't the only reason I hated it.

Narrator Like I mentioned earlier, the narrator in this book was incredibly annoying. She whined and it just drove me up the wall. It is in moments like this when I remind myself why I am hesitant to listen to audio books. But when you are stuck in the car as much as I am, you are willing to do it.

Samantha This wasn't the same Samantha Madison that I remember from All-American Girl. She is extremely judgmental (especially about her sister, Lucy. Does she not remember that at the end of the last novel, Lucy broke up Jack because of how he treated Sam?). She jumps to conclusions all the time. She whines. And she is rude. The way she treats the president is just flat out rude. And to do it on national tv is incredible wrong. She was just altogether unappealing.

Sex Yes, there is the sex factor. Now while I personally believe in abstinence, I also know and understand that I cannot force my opinion on anyone else. And I am okay with that. Everyone has their agency to choice what they want to do for themselves. But in this book, Cabot pushes her agenda on the reader. And it was sickening. She makes a person feel like it they choose not to have sex until they are married, then they are foolish and stupid.

Now if Cabot was trying to go for the approach to "wait until you are mature and ready" then she failed. The whole novel Sam goes on and on about how she is not ready to have sex yet. Which is quiet a mature decision. Yet when she goes to tell him this, she sees him with his shirt of an all of a sudden, all of that goes out of the window and she "jumps his bones". She ends up going with a spur of the moment decision instead of what she had decided through out the whole book. In whole, she just proved over and over again in this whole novel how immature she was to be having sex.

And then there is the purity club. Yes, because all people who believe in purity are just like Kris Parks and go around calling other people sluts. That is so real (please read the sarcasm in that). Listen, I have friends who choose to have sex outside of wedlock and friends who choose to wait. It isn't my place to judge, it is my place to love them for who they are. So I did not appreciate the extreme stereotyping deployed by Cabot.

Ending conclusions In short, it is possible that I hated this book so much that I am tempted to not ever read anything by Meg Cabot ever again. It was awful and there were no redeeming qualities. I absolutely loathed it. Which sucks because I liked the first book and this one has essentially ruined it for me. Thanks for nothing, Meg. Would have been better if you had never even written this one.
One of my favorite parts of this book is the action and romance. You could sense the "Frisson" from when the 2 lovers met. I will warn you that after every chapter there was a " top 10 reasons blah blah blah..." This kinda annoyed me but I got past it. I would r commend this book to anybody who is in to young romance. This book is age appropriate for kids 8 and up. I rated this a five because it was a book that I have read so many times. I love this book.
Sam draws pictures of famous people with her classmates. She gets busted trying to sell them to girls at school. She also struggles with her German class. She just can't seem to grasp the language. As punishment her parents send her to an art class. After she skips class, she waited in the rain to be picked up...

This book is interesting for me to read because it's from 2002. It's amazing how much technology has changed. People were not texting they were IMing. They used land lines. All kinds of outdated technology is being used. It's great!
