Dude Review: This is a real feel good story that'll make you appreciate love and second chances in life. Our hero is clearly 'damaged goods' but our leading lady definitely has the gift of empathy and charms to reel him in. A simple story revolving around dogs bringing two beautiful people together, definitely worth your time and effort. A little vulgar if you're like me - used to reading historical romances - with a decent dose of sexual tension that turns into hot firey passion in the later stages of the book. Please give this a read as it'll show a brief glimpse of the hardship our servicemen endure on a daily basis and the difference dog's can make in their lives... and love too for that matter :-)

Joe Flynn is a man who once had everything and now feels like he's lost it all. He's struggling with PTSD, alone and troubled, he becomes a rescuer of animals who are even more battered than he is. But one of them becomes his savior. Once a Navy Seal and dog handler, he sees the ghost of the dog he lost when he needs encouragement the most, but gradually that job is taken over by the dog he rescued and they forge a bond that saves them both. Willow is the veterinarian who is the recipient of all the mistreated and ailing animals Flynn rescues, but she sees more in Flynn than the broken soldier and her love and encouragement helps Flynn to see the good that is still in him and to envision a future he can look forward to, with her.
I enjoyed getting to know Flynn and willow. Willow was a veterinarian and Flynn a veteran of war that had been injured and lost his K9 partner and fellow servicemen. Flynn was having a hard time after losing his partner (dog....mace). He keep rescuing animals and taking them to willow to either fix or put out of their misery. Willow had been attracted to Flynn but could never get him to talk to her was always grumpy. Finally he brought in a rescue that was in bad shape and the dog loved him. After mace Flynn felt he could not get close to another dog. With willow' s help and encouraging things started to change for Flynn. Mostly he started opening himself up to new possibilities . I loved how it all came together for everyone. Please read.
What a great story. Flynt is a former Navy Seal who was injured in war and lost his best friend and partner Mace, his military war dog. Now it seems like he has a sixth sense about injured pets and finds them often. Over the last year, he drops the hurt animals off with Veterinarian Willow James. He has a huge crush on Willow, but because of his PTSD, he doesn't think he'll ever have the confidence to pursue it.

One particular dog stays with Flynt and he finds himself going by to check on her. He tells himself it's just the dog he wants to see and not Willow. Flynt suddenly finds himself having dinner with Willow and a slow relationship begins. He also finds himself the new owner of Maya, the dog in question when she pretty much adapts him as her new human.

Flynt and Willow were a great couple. She was perfect for him and dealing with the issues he suffered as a result of his time overseas. Being a vet and having the knowledge she did made them even closer I think and it was subject matter I had not read before.

This was short but very sweet story told from dual POVs. It's got one of those HEAs we all love.
I've read a few of Madden's books now and I've liked them all very much; but I love this one. I'm easily swayed when a good dog is part of the plot but this is such a sweet story as Flynn starts to finally deal with his PTSD with the help of Willow, a strong, smart, and loving woman and Maya, a rescue dog. There is also Mace, essentially the ghost of the dog Flynn lost in combat.
Parts of this will bring on some tears but its so refreshing to read about adults who communicate honestly with each other and build something lovely.
Oh. Madden writes a great steamy scene and her damaged heroes are, hot, hot, hot; but its the brave strong women I really enjoy in her writing.
Madden does a great job of introducing the importance of working dogs in the military and in real life. As a military dog handler Flynn has lost his most trusted partner. Willow is my favorite heroine in this series and I love the development of their romance.

Flynn lost his working dog Mace while in service. He works for LNF now. He can't figure out how all the strays that are injured keep finding or luring him to them. He takes them to Willow's office. When he brings in a dog with a collar embedded into her neck, he feels something different for this stray. He finds himself going back to check on her. Especially when he finds out she is going to have puppies. Willow is intrigued by the big man. He brings in these injured animals but never says much else. That is until Maya shows up on his doorstep. When Willow shows up at his apartment, instead of taking the dog with her, she volunteers to keep her for him during the day. He goes and picks her up at night. Willow notices that when Flynn gets upset or anxious, Maya goes to him and calms him. Can she convince Flynn to train her for search and rescue and for a service dog? Can Willow convince Flynn to give a relationship a try?
